THE FOLLOWING INTERVIEW WAS PUBLISHED 10/28/2011 IN THE BRAINERD DISPATCH: Where did you grow up? Born in Duluth and moved to Crystal, a northern suburb of Minneapolis at the ripe old age of 5. Why do you live in the Brainerd Lakes Area? I initially moved to Brainerd because I had always liked the area and had family living in the Crosslake area and also thought it to be in a good place for my children to grow up. After the kids are grown and gone, I have stayed here because of the friendships established, family living here, and lifestyle of living in this area suits me fine. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? I enjoy bicycling, often this last summer I would bike to the office in the morning and back home at the end of the work day. I would like to take some bicycle- related trips in the future, it’s a nice way to enjoy the great outdoors. Last year I got into cross country skiing and am looking forward to doing more of that this winter. We are lucky, as Brainerd Area residents, to have a place like the arboretum to go snow shoeing or cross country skiing with its user-friendly location and all that it offers. How long have you worked in real estate? I started in December of 2004. I specialize in residential real estate including lakeshore and land. What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do? Creating a win/win situation when both buyer and seller leave the closing table. When both parties are happy with the outcome of their transaction I feel as though I have succeeded. Making money is important but having a transaction where everyone is treated fairly and happy with the outcome is equally important. What are the top 3 things that separate you from your competition? 1 – (Experience) at 64 years young I have been in sales and marketing for the last 48 years, that experience is priceless to my clients and to myself. 2 – (Full Time) all my clients know that I am just a phone call away 7 days a week and their calls are welcome anytime. 3 – (My Brokerage) The relationship between a Realtor and the Brokerage he or she represents is critical to everyone involved, especially the people that agent serves. I feel very fortunate to be with Positive Realty as they have always been a company of their word which is a quality I sincerely respect and am proud to be a part of. What is the one tip I have for someone looking to buy or sell a home? The first thing for someone buying a home is to find a mortgage lender that can give them some guidelines as to what their investment responsibilities would be so when they start looking at homes, they know in their hearts and minds, if they see something they like, it will be within their financial reach. My tip for a seller is to interview a few agents from different brokerages and select the one they feel will do the best for them. What do you see in the future for real estate sales/prices? Being the eternal optimist, I want to see prices level off and a little appreciation would be nice. Hopefully 2015 will give us a steady market with a good balance of Buyers and Sellers which will be a good thing for everyone. Another ingredient in home buying is financing and the rates have never been better which bodes well for today’s buyers. Why should someone choose you as their real estate agent? Because I guarantee to give all my clients: “The service they deserve and a person they can trust” and “With a name like Schmutzer, I gotta be good!!
